Investigating, he found that it was a tiny newborn turtle; about two inches long. Apparently the turtle had been dropped by a bird who had plucked it from the ocean or the beach.
Steve kept the turtle, now named Freefall, in a bowl of water overnight and then took it to the Museum of Discovery and Science. Freefall lived at the museum for two years. Staff put live shrimp and crab into his tank so that he could learn how to hunt.
When he was just two years old, weighing about the same as most three year old turtles in the wild, he was released into the ocean. By this time, he was 42 pounds and two feet in length.
