The New River was the first thoroughfare in Fort Lauderdale. In the very early days of the New River settlement there were no roads, just a few dirt tracks, and the river was the main form of transportation.
It remains a very busy waterway to this day. Notice the fruit growing on the tree. The early settlers could walk along the dirt track that eventually became Las Olas Boulevard and pick grapes, mangoes, guavas and more straight from the trees. They caught fish in the New River. What a life it must have been in those days … what a life it is now 🙂
