Las Olas : From the Beach to the Boulevard

A tribute to one of the finest streets in South Florida, Las Olas Boulevard.

Considered the jewel in Fort Lauderdale’s crown, this beautiful tree-lined street runs from the Museum of Art right in the center of the city, through tree-canopied shopping and restaurant districts, past million dollar waterfront homes, right down to one of America’s finest golden beaches.

Two of the Boulevard’s longtime residents pay tribute to this storied thoroughfare in elegant words and beautiful pictures.

Las Olas Boulevard : Create Your Own History

By Jackie Jackson

From humble beginnings as a trading post on the fringe of Florida’s wild Everglades to a teeming modern destination boulevard close to a world-class cruise port Las Olas has seen it all.

Stories are still being told, and memories constantly made. Read about the past, then make your own trip to Las Olas to create your own story.

The Spirit of the River

By Jackie Jackson

The story of the family who built Fort Lauderdale’s legendary Riverside Hotel. The Riverside Hotel is so much more than a place to stay – it is living history.

The story of the founding of this hotel, at the very heart of a great Florida city, is in many ways the story of the founding of a community.

This book tells the story of the people who came together to build one of Florida’s oldest and most celebrated hotels on one of America’s favorite streets; Las Olas Boulevard.

The Other Side of Sunrise

By Andy Royston

This book was originally published to complement a series of talks that I gave at the Museum of Discovery and Science here in Fort Lauderdale.

One thing about photographing the beach every day is that I get to see all kinds of amazing marine creatures and over time I’ve learned a little more about them. This is my celebration of the natural side of our beach.

The books come in two formats.

A hard back Beach Edition prepared with advice from my friends at the Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau and a paperback edition with an extrended set of pictures of our most unusual visitor, the Portuguese Man o’War.

Do take time to view the previews of the books. I hope that you’ll feel as fascinated by Fort Lauderdale’s beach nature as I do.
