My first visit to Fort Lauderdale was in 1985. Wow, that’s a long time ago. That was a vacation – it wasn’t until nine years later that I decided to come here to live permanently.
The highlight of that 1985 vacation was the Fort Lauderdale Seafood Festival. It took place at what was then called Bubier Park at ‘100 SE Las Olas Boulevard’ (between Andrews and SE 1st.)
The festival took place under the Andrews Avenue Bridge along the New River up to the railroad track. There were many restaurants showcasing their seafood dishes and some wonderful music. I remember particularly a fantastic steel band. Sunshine, great food and atmospheric music.
Can we please reinstate the seafood festival?
